Refugee Support & Crisis Response

Refugee Support (Middle East)

Philanthropic focus in the Middle East is shifting from refugee relief to longer-term strategic planning to sustain the displaced Christian population and promote the growth of Christian presence. Displaced people of all faiths report ongoing need, not only for immediate medical assistance but also for more permanent and lasting medical/health care options as a crucial element of sustainability.

The Harold C. Smith Foundation is supporting:

  • Medical Life Centers in Lebanon
  • Mobile Medical Clinic Teams at camps in Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan, and Iraq.
  • Medical equipment for the Catholic Hospital in Erbil, Kurdistan
  • Pediatric care at the Mother of Mercy Clinic in Jordan
  • Lifesaving care at Italian Hospitals in Jordan
  • Lifesaving care in Baghdad, Iraq
  • Surgical procedures in the Valley of the Christians, Syria
  • Home for orphaned and neglected Iraqi girls and young women

Crisis Response

Disaster relief, especially in the United States, is effective and well-organized. However, funding decreased after initial relief, leaving recovery efforts often under-funded.

The Harold C. Smith Foundation is supporting:

  • Mercy Centers in Puerto Rico to support longer-term disaster recovery
